Continental has issued a recall on over 14,000 tires in its CrossContact LX20 line due to a potential defect that can cause tread or belt loss. Potential contamination could result in the tire separating from the tread or belt, resulting in tire blowouts, loss of control, and a potentially dangerous crash.
The tires affected are in the P275/55R20 size range, many of which were sold as standard equipment on General Motors full-size pickup trucks and SUVs. Models are estimated to include the Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban as well as the GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL. A small number of these tires were also sold in the replacement market.
The affected tires were manufactured between May 3rd and May 9th of 2015.
Symptoms of this defect are usually demonstrated by uneven tread loss in certain areas of the tire, resulting in excessive “vibration, noise, and bulging in the tread area,” the recall notice states. If you are experiencing these issues, it is crucial you cease regular driving immediately and have your tires checked at a service center.
If your tires may be impacted by this recall, Continental will replace these tires at no charge through April 30th, 2017. If you have been forced to replace a tire due to this defect before the recall was issued, Continental may reimburse you for the costs of your tire replacement with a comparable tire, so long as your claim is submitted to Continental by the April 30th deadline.
To have your tires replaced, make an appointment to return to the dealer where you either purchased your vehicle or your replacement tires and new ones will be installed at no cost to you. If your dealer is unable to service your vehicle, you can locate a Continental tire retailer on Continental’s website or by calling their customer service at 1-888-799-2168.
