Two children are in critical condition and a third is in serious condition after a bus accident in Louisville on Thursday morning. According to WHAS 11, a Cadillac Escalade hit three children, trapping one girl under the SUV. Immediately after the accident, residents in the area tried to lift the SUV off the child trapped underneath. Local traffic units confirmed that the driver of the SUV was traveling eastbound and did not realize that the Jefferson County Public Schools bus had come to a stop. In an effort to avoid colliding into the bus, the driver of the SUV swerved to the right side of the bus and struck the three children on the sidewalk.
LMPD Traffic Units reported that, at the time of the accident, the school bus was flashing its yellow warning accidents and was in the process of picking up children at the bus stop. Police arrested and charged the driver with driving without insurance and registration.
Separately, a bus accident in Rusk, Texas, sent seven students to a local hospital after a school bus lost control and hit a tree. Preliminary reports suggest that the bus involved in the collision swerve to avoid colliding into another bus on the highway. Two of the 44 students on the bus were reported to have minor injuries, while the driver of the bus was unharmed.
